My manifesto.

In my previous post I set out how existing legal service paradigms have to change.  This background has informed my own approach to “doing law”. It is the foundation of my vision and mission:

My vision. Happier people, happier businesses - through innovations in technology, lifestyles and collaboration models.

My mission.  Inspire - and deliver - better ways of doing things, by breaking down unnecessary traditions and creating simple solutions to complex problems.

To achieve the mission, this is my manifesto for legal services:

Beyond advice.

Practical consulting that goes beyond legal advice.  This means delivering solutions to business problems, implemented or implementable in alignment with business strategy and processes, and supported by smart tools.  I call this “in-house style consulting” because it is what the business wants and what the very best in-house lawyers do.

Made simple.

Simplicity as a primary objective, always.  Simple commercial language that does not need translation. Simple tools using readily available technology - before investing in legal tech.  Simplification at the core, because it creates benefits beyond the solution itself.

Made real.

Advice that is designed to work and increases your capacity to get things done.  This means thinking and acting cross-functionally, because most business problems - and all the best solutions - are cross-functional.  It means the flexibility to meet different resourcing challenges and deliver trusted support “on the ground”. It means making the business of law human and inspiring.

Next generation.

Innovation, no unnecessary traditions and a fresh approach to risk and reward.  Looking at law as a business process, which means a constant drive towards fast, smart, efficient, sustainable.  Customer-centric and value(s)-driven - as complementary or disruptive to your existing support structure as you want to make it.

I see so many professionals and businesses out there thinking and working in the same direction. I look forward to sharing this journey with like-minded people, and learning from them.

Evolution happens.
Revolutions are made.
