Created refreshed templates and a contracting process for this engineering company. Designed a modular contract toolbox with integrated templates and self-service playbooks, complemented by a clear engagement process, communication aids, post-signature guidelines and training. The new toolkit enables the company to speed up and self-service its NDAs and terms of business for 80-90% of its projects.

Working with a Euro3.5bn procurement function, increased use of formal contracts, designed and deployed a contract management process with enhanced legal controls, and introduced a new “evergreen” contracting model.

Advised on a project between a home appliance manufacturer and a major food brand, to commercialise a co-branded automatic oven and foodpack concept.
Negotiated a partnership agreement covering development of technology and designs, and a commercialisation structure including supply chain, channels, co-branding, e-commerce and data ownership.
The trust developed with the business and legal teams on both sides facilitated closure on deal-breakers even when the commercial teams were struggling to resolve them.
A smart toolkit to improve internal alignment, increase speed and secure improved positions in technology deals and collaborative R&D.
Created and embedded a “smart” methodology and tools to help a home appliance business and the R&D function of a major oil company through the technology collaboration lifecycle, applying it successfully to regional and global deals.
Applying these tools improved deal speeds, secured strong IP positions, helped avoid bad deals, and enabled functions to be more self-sufficient on simple transactions. It also helped forge close internal relationships and secured an early “seat at the table” for the legal team.
Meeting legal and CRM objectives for a new wave of IoT home appliances.
Supported the first wave launch of Whirlpool EMEA’s “connected” products. This meant ensuring consumer law and privacy compliance across a number of countries, yet putting the business in the best possible position to achieve its CRM objectives.
Developed privacy policies, terms of use and product labelling. Risk reviewed the mobile app and helped design the consumer sign-on process. The result was an on-time, risk-managed launch with all the business objectives achieved and no legal bottlenecks - all within a challenging timeframe.

Creating and embedding regional compliance systems and policies, in the area of energy declarations.
Instigated and led an audit on energy declarations across this business’s product categories. The need was driven by legislative change and an increasing focus on the topic from regulators and consumers.
Consequent to the audit, I helped launch an EMEA-wide cross-functional project to build updated compliance policies and ensure an industry level playing field. As well as providing leadership in the design and execution of the project, as part of the PMO team I was also responsible for scrutinising the work of the functional teams and reporting to senior management.
